Quiet Time - Privacy Policy
This privacy policy has been compiled to better serve those who are concerned with how their 'Personally identifiable information' (PII) is being used online. PII, as used in US privacy law and information security, is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person, or to identify an individual in context. Please read our privacy policy carefully to get a clear understanding of how we collect, use, protect or otherwise handle your Personally Identifiable Information in accordance with our website and app.
What personal information do we collect from the people that visit our website or app?
When registering on our site, as appropriate, you may be asked to enter your name, email address or other details to help you with your experience. As you use Quiet Time we also store the content and activity you create (such as journal entries, prayers, memory work, reading progress and points), your notification and privacy choices, and — only if you allow usage analytics — a device-level analytics identifier held by Google (see "Usage analytics" below). We do not receive or store payment information.
When do we collect information?
We collect information when you register, when you enter information or use features on our site or app, and (only with your consent) through the usage analytics described below.
How do we use your information?
• To provide the app's features and personalize your experience.
• To understand which features are useful so we can improve Quiet Time.
• To send periodic emails regarding Quiet Time features, and to support you.
How do we protect your information?
Our website and app are served over HTTPS, so information is encrypted in transit. Your private content — journal, prayer, memory and similar — is encrypted where it is stored. We use error and security monitoring to keep Quiet Time working and safe; it is designed to exclude and scrub your private content, and does not receive your IP address. We do not process any financial transactions.
Usage analytics (opt-in)
We use Google Analytics on the web and Firebase Analytics on mobile to understand how the app's features are used. This is off by default. We ask once with a simple banner, and it only loads if you choose "Allow"; decline and we load nothing and send nothing to Google. You can change your choice at any time — signed in, under Privacy Settings; signed out, on this Privacy page. Your choice applies to your account across your devices, with your most recent decision honored. We do not send your Quiet Time account identity to Google.
Anonymous usage measurement
Independently of the analytics above, we keep simple aggregate counts that store no personal, device, or session identifier and are tied to no one: how often Bible content is opened (so we can report content usage to the publishers we license Scripture from), and an approximate count of monthly visitors (using a privacy-preserving method that stores only a total, with no cookie and nothing that points back to you). Because these identify no one, they are not personal data.
Reviewing usage, and contacting you about it
Our team may review how Quiet Time's features are used — including at an individual level, but as activity counts, not your private content — to run and improve the service and to support you. We will only reach out to you about your own usage if you turn on "Contact about my usage" in Privacy Settings; it is off unless you choose it.
Your data and your choices
• You can download all of your own data, and you can delete your account and all of your own data, at any time.
• You can update your email preferences at any time.
• You can change your analytics and privacy choices at any time in Privacy Settings.
Legal bases (where applicable): we rely on your consent for Google Analytics / Firebase; and on our legitimate interest in running and improving the service for the anonymous aggregate counts, product-usage review, and error/security monitoring.
Do we use 'cookies'?
Yes, a small number. We use necessary cookies to keep you signed in and to remember your privacy choice. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) are set only if you allow usage analytics; if you decline, none are set. You can turn cookies off in your browser settings, though some features may then not work properly.
Third Party Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer to outside parties your personally identifiable information.
Third party links
We do not include or offer third party products or services on our website.
With your consent we use Google Analytics (web) and Firebase Analytics (mobile) to measure product usage, as described above; we do not send your Quiet Time account identity to Google. We have not enabled Google AdSense on our site.
Signing in
You can create an account with an email and password, or use a third-party sign-in: Google (web and mobile) or Sign in with Apple (on iOS). When you use one of these, we receive basic profile information — such as your name and email address — from the provider only to create or link your Quiet Time account. With Sign in with Apple you can choose to hide your email, in which case Apple provides a private relay address instead and that is what we store. We do not post anything to these providers or share your Quiet Time activity with them.
We previously offered Facebook sign-in; it, and its associated tools and cookies, have been removed from Quiet Time.
California Online Privacy Protection Act
CalOPPA is the first state law in the nation to require commercial websites and online services to post a privacy policy. The law's reach stretches well beyond California to require a person or company in the United States (and conceivably the world) that operates websites collecting personally identifiable information from California consumers to post a conspicuous privacy policy on its website stating exactly the information being collected and those individuals with whom it is being shared, and to comply with this policy.
According to CalOPPA we agree to the following:
Users can visit our site anonymously.
We include a link to this privacy policy on our home page, or as a minimum on the first significant page after entering our website, and the link includes the word 'Privacy'.
Users will be notified of any privacy policy changes on this Privacy Policy page.
Users are able to change their personal information by logging in to their account.
How does our site handle do not track signals?
Because our analytics are off by default (opt-in), we honor Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control by default — third-party analytics load only if you explicitly allow them.
Does our site allow third party behavioral tracking?
We do not allow third-party advertising or behavioral tracking. The only third-party analytics we use are Google Analytics (web) and Firebase (mobile), for product usage, and only with your consent.
COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)
When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under 13, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. We do not specifically market to children under 13.
Fair Information Practices
In order to be in line with Fair Information Practices we will, should a data breach occur, notify the users via email within 7 business days.
We also agree to the individual redress principle, which requires that individuals have a right to pursue legally enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law.
CAN SPAM Act
To be in accordance with CANSPAM we agree to the following:
• NOT use false or misleading subjects or email addresses.
• Identify the message as an advertisement in some reasonable way.
• Include the physical address of our business or site headquarters.
• Honor opt-out/unsubscribe requests quickly.
• Allow users to unsubscribe by using the link at the bottom of each email.
If at any time you would like to unsubscribe from receiving future emails, follow the instructions at the bottom of each email.
