Psalms 119

Your Word is a Lamp to My Feet
1 Aleph

  Blessed are those whose way is blameless,
 who walk in the law of the LORD!
2 Blessed are those who keep his testimonies,
 who seek him with their whole heart,
3 who also do no wrong,
 but walk in his ways!
4 You have commanded your precepts
 to be kept diligently.
5 Oh that my ways may be steadfast
 in keeping your statutes!
6 Then I shall not be put to shame,
 having my eyes fixed on all your commandments.
7 I will praise you with an upright heart,
 when I learn your righteous rules.
8 I will keep your statutes;
 do not utterly forsake me!
9 Beth

 How can a young man keep his way pure?
 By guarding it according to your word.
10 With my whole heart I seek you;
 let me not wander from your commandments!
11 I have stored up your word in my heart,
 that I might not sin against you.
12 Blessed are you, O LORD;
 teach me your statutes!
13 With my lips I declare
 all the rules of your mouth.
14 In the way of your testimonies I delight
 as much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on your precepts
 and fix my eyes on your ways.
16 I will delight in your statutes;
 I will not forget your word.
17 Gimel

 Deal bountifully with your servant,
 that I may live and keep your word.
18 Open my eyes, that I may behold
 wondrous things out of your law.
19 I am a sojourner on the earth;
 hide not your commandments from me!
20 My soul is consumed with longing
 for your rules at all times.
21 You rebuke the insolent, accursed ones,
 who wander from your commandments.
22 Take away from me scorn and contempt,
 for I have kept your testimonies.
23 Even though princes sit plotting against me,
 your servant will meditate on your statutes.
24 Your testimonies are my delight;
 they are my counselors.
25 Daleth

 My soul clings to the dust;
 give me life according to your word!
26 When I told of my ways, you answered me;
 teach me your statutes!
27 Make me understand the way of your precepts,
 and I will meditate on your wondrous works.
28 My soul melts away for sorrow;
 strengthen me according to your word!
29 Put false ways far from me
 and graciously teach me your law!
30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness;
 I set your rules before me.
31 I cling to your testimonies, O LORD;
 let me not be put to shame!
32 I will run in the way of your commandments
 when you enlarge my heart!
33 He

 Teach me, O LORD, the way of your statutes;
 and I will keep it to the end.
34 Give me understanding, that I may keep your law
 and observe it with my whole heart.
35 Lead me in the path of your commandments,
 for I delight in it.
36 Incline my heart to your testimonies,
 and not to selfish gain!
37 Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
 and give me life in your ways.
38 Confirm to your servant your promise,
 that you may be feared.
39 Turn away the reproach that I dread,
 for your rules are good.
40 Behold, I long for your precepts;
 in your righteousness give me life!
41 Waw

 Let your steadfast love come to me, O LORD,
 your salvation according to your promise;

Isaiah 62

Zion’s Salvation and New Name

1 For Zion's sake I will not keep silent,
 and for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet,
until her righteousness goes forth as brightness,
 and her salvation as a burning torch.
2 The nations shall see your righteousness,
 and all the kings your glory,
and you shall be called by a new name
 that the mouth of the LORD will give.
3 You shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the LORD,
 and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.
4 You shall no more be termed Forsaken,
 and your land shall no more be termed Desolate,
but you shall be called My Delight Is in Her,
 and your land Married;
for the LORD delights in you,
 and your land shall be married.
5 For as a young man marries a young woman,
 so shall your sons marry you,
and as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride,
 so shall your God rejoice over you.

6 On your walls, O Jerusalem,
 I have set watchmen;
all the day and all the night
 they shall never be silent.
You who put the LORD in remembrance,
 take no rest,
7 and give him no rest
 until he establishes Jerusalem
 and makes it a praise in the earth.
8 The LORD has sworn by his right hand
 and by his mighty arm:
“I will not again give your grain
 to be food for your enemies,
and foreigners shall not drink your wine
 for which you have labored;
9 but those who garner it shall eat it
 and praise the LORD,
and those who gather it shall drink it
 in the courts of my sanctuary.”

10 Go through, go through the gates;
 prepare the way for the people;
build up, build up the highway;
 clear it of stones;
 lift up a signal over the peoples.
11 Behold, the LORD has proclaimed
 to the end of the earth:
Say to the daughter of Zion,
 “Behold, your salvation comes;
behold, his reward is with him,
 and his recompense before him.”

12 And they shall be called The Holy People,
 The Redeemed of the LORD;
and you shall be called Sought Out,
 A City Not Forsaken.

Isaiah 63

God’s Vengeance on the Nations

1 Who is this who comes from Edom,
 in crimsoned garments from Bozrah,
he who is splendid in his apparel,
 marching in the greatness of his strength?
“It is I, speaking in righteousness,
 mighty to save.”

2 Why is your apparel red,
 and your garments like his who treads in the winepress?

3 “I have trodden the winepress alone,
 and from the peoples no one was with me;
I trod them in my anger
 and trampled them in my wrath;
their lifeblood spattered on my garments,
 and stained all my apparel.
4 For the day of vengeance was in my heart,
 and my year of redemption had come.
5 I looked, but there was no one to help;
 I was appalled, but there was no one to uphold;
so my own arm brought me salvation,
 and my wrath upheld me.
6 I trampled down the peoples in my anger;
 I made them drunk in my wrath,
 and I poured out their lifeblood on the earth.”

God’s Mercies Recalled

7 I will recount the steadfast love of the LORD,
 the praises of the LORD,
according to all that the LORD has granted us,
 and the great goodness to the house of Israel
that he has granted them according to his compassion,
 according to the abundance of his steadfast love.
8 For he said, “Surely they are my people,
 children who will not deal falsely.”

 And he became their Savior.
9 In all their affliction he was afflicted,
 and the angel of his presence saved them;
in his love and in his pity he redeemed them;
 he lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.

10 But they rebelled
 and grieved his Holy Spirit;
therefore he turned to be their enemy,
 and himself fought against them.
11 Then he remembered the days of old,
 of Moses and his people.
Where is he who brought them up out of the sea
 with the shepherds of his flock?
Where is he who put in the midst of them
 his Holy Spirit,
12 who caused his glorious arm
 to go at the right hand of Moses,
who divided the waters before them
 to make for himself an everlasting name,
13  who led them through the depths?
Like a horse in the desert,
 they did not stumble.
14 Like livestock that go down into the valley,
 the Spirit of the LORD gave them rest.
So you led your people,
 to make for yourself a glorious name.
A Prayer for Mercy

15 Look down from heaven and see,
 from your holy and beautiful habitation.
Where are your zeal and your might?
 The stirring of your inner parts and your compassion
 are held back from me.
16 For you are our Father,
 though Abraham does not know us,
 and Israel does not acknowledge us;
you, O LORD, are our Father,
 our Redeemer from of old is your name.
17 O LORD, why do you make us wander from your ways
 and harden our heart, so that we fear you not?
Return for the sake of your servants,
 the tribes of your heritage.
18 Your holy people held possession for a little while;
 our adversaries have trampled down your sanctuary.
19 We have become like those over whom you have never ruled,
 like those who are not called by your name.

Nehemiah 11

The New Settlers in Jerusalem
1 Now the leaders of the people lived in Jerusalem. And the rest of the people cast lots to bring one out of ten to live in Jerusalem the holy city, while nine out of ten remained in the other towns.
2 And the people blessed all the men who willingly offered to live in Jerusalem.
3 These are the chiefs of the province who lived in Jerusalem; but in the towns of Judah everyone lived on his property in their towns: Israel, the priests, the Levites, the temple servants, and the descendants of Solomon's servants.
4 And in Jerusalem lived certain of the sons of Judah and of the sons of Benjamin. Of the sons of Judah: Athaiah the son of Uzziah, son of Zechariah, son of Amariah, son of Shephatiah, son of Mahalalel, of the sons of Perez; 5 and Maaseiah the son of Baruch, son of Col-hozeh, son of Hazaiah, son of Adaiah, son of Joiarib, son of Zechariah, son of the Shilonite. 6 All the sons of Perez who lived in Jerusalem were 468 valiant men.
7 And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, son of Joed, son of Pedaiah, son of Kolaiah, son of Maaseiah, son of Ithiel, son of Jeshaiah,
8 and his brothers, men of valor, 928. 9 Joel the son of Zichri was their overseer; and Judah the son of Hassenuah was second over the city.
10 Of the priests: Jedaiah the son of Joiarib, Jachin,
11 Seraiah the son of Hilkiah, son of Meshullam, son of Zadok, son of Meraioth, son of Ahitub, ruler of the house of God, 12 and their brothers who did the work of the house, 822; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, son of Pelaliah, son of Amzi, son of Zechariah, son of Pashhur, son of Malchijah, 13 and his brothers, heads of fathers' houses, 242; and Amashsai, the son of Azarel, son of Ahzai, son of Meshillemoth, son of Immer, 14 and their brothers, mighty men of valor, 128; their overseer was Zabdiel the son of Haggedolim.
15 And of the Levites: Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, son of Azrikam, son of Hashabiah, son of Bunni;
16 and Shabbethai and Jozabad, of the chiefs of the Levites, who were over the outside work of the house of God; 17 and Mattaniah the son of Mica, son of Zabdi, son of Asaph, who was the leader of the praise, who gave thanks, and Bakbukiah, the second among his brothers; and Abda the son of Shammua, son of Galal, son of Jeduthun. 18 All the Levites in the holy city were 284.
19 The gatekeepers, Akkub, Talmon and their brothers, who kept watch at the gates, were 172.
Residents outside Jerusalem
20 And the rest of Israel, and of the priests and the Levites, were in all the towns of Judah, every one in his inheritance.
21 But the temple servants lived on Ophel; and Ziha and Gishpa were over the temple servants.
22 The overseer of the Levites in Jerusalem was Uzzi the son of Bani, son of Hashabiah, son of Mattaniah, son of Mica, of the sons of Asaph, the singers, over the work of the house of God.
23 For there was a command from the king concerning them, and a fixed provision for the singers, as every day required. 24 And Pethahiah the son of Meshezabel, of the sons of Zerah the son of Judah, was at the king's side in all matters concerning the people.
25 And as for the villages, with their fields, some of the people of Judah lived in Kiriath-arba and its villages, and in Dibon and its villages, and in Jekabzeel and its villages,
26 and in Jeshua and in Moladah and Beth-pelet, 27 in Hazar-shual, in Beersheba and its villages, 28 in Ziklag, in Meconah and its villages, 29 in En-rimmon, in Zorah, in Jarmuth, 30 Zanoah, Adullam, and their villages, Lachish and its fields, and Azekah and its villages. So they encamped from Beersheba to the Valley of Hinnom. 31 The people of Benjamin also lived from Geba onward, at Michmash, Aija, Bethel and its villages, 32 Anathoth, Nob, Ananiah, 33 Hazor, Ramah, Gittaim, 34 Hadid, Zeboim, Neballat, 35 Lod, and Ono, the valley of craftsmen. 36 And certain divisions of the Levites in Judah were assigned to Benjamin.

Hebrews 6

A Call to Maturity
1 Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,
2 and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. 3 And this we will do if God permits. 4 For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt. 7 For land that has drunk the rain that often falls on it, and produces a crop useful to those for whose sake it is cultivated, receives a blessing from God. 8 But if it bears thorns and thistles, it is worthless and near to being cursed, and its end is to be burned.
9 Though we speak in this way, yet in your case, beloved, we feel sure of better things—things that belong to salvation.
10 For God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love that you have shown for his name in serving the saints, as you still do. 11 And we desire each one of you to show the same earnestness to have the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 so that you may not be sluggish, but imitators of those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
God’s Unchangeable Promise
13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,
14 saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” 15 And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. 16 For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. 17 So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, 18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. 19 We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, 20 where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.
